Daves has a research focus on the invasive Box Tree Moth (BTM), with an emphasis on identifying boxwood cultivars that are more or less tolerant to BTM. His research combines chemical analysis of boxwood secondary metabolites with behavioral preference and performance assays to better understand cultivar susceptibility and support efforts to prevent the spread of BTM in Virginia.
